Art Program for Students
Eight years ago the Homer Area Arts Committee (HAAC) saw a need to nurture the Arts in their community. Daphne, a member of HAAC, initiated a program (
"
Arts in
Public Places
"
)
to promote an awareness of the visual arts in the public schools involving children in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grades. In the first year, with funds provided by a grant from the Homer Area Community Foundation, twenty pieces of student art were selected to be professionally framed and displayed in local businesses. In 2006, there were over three-hundred entries submitted to the committee. With Daphne's mentoring, including the donation of her time and services, the program continues to flourish.
