THE HISTORY OF THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER
The lyrics come from a poem written in 1814 by Francis scott Key, a 35 year-old amateur poet who wrote "Defence of Fort McHenry" after seeing the bombardment of Fort McHenry at Baltimore, Maryland, by Royal Navy Ships in Chesapeake Bay during the war of 1812.
Eloise's quote
"I'm not strong. She's not strong. But together my friend and I make the strongest force in the known universe."
- Linda MacFarlane
My commitment is to always give my personal attention to your concerns, comments and requests.
JULY- AUGUST RECIPE
"Monkey Bread"
- 3- cans of refrigerated biscuits
- 3- tablespoons cinnamon
- 3/4 cup sugar
Combine cinnamon and sugar in a zip lock bag. Cut each biscuit into quarters and shake to coat in sugar mixture.Spray non-stick cooking spray lightly in a bundt pan. Drop coated biscuit pieces in the bundt pan. Melt one stick of butter and one cup brown sugar. Pour mixture over biscuits in bundt pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees.
DAPHNE'S QUOTE
"The telephone & cell phone are the greatest instruments of aggression since the longbow. It is a baseball through a window, a tank crashing into your foyer. We permit violations of privacy by telephone that we would never dream of permitting by other means. Instead, it is considered rude not to respond slavishly to the immediate demands of the phone. Hiding behind an answering machine and pretending to be out is thought to be bad form, a violation of democratic norms, as if anyone capable of punching seven digits in sequence merits your urgent attention.".
- Charles Krauthammer

RELAY FOR LIFE
Please join Daphne's Family and Friends Team at the 2009 "Relay for Life" event at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds in Marshall.
- Friday, July17th 3:00pm until
- Saturday, July 18th 3:00pm
We need walkers for ALL time slots and tent help. If you can spare an
hour or more anytime during the 24 hours we would really appreciate it.
This year our team is dedicated to fabulous survivor Patti Jarvis, and in loving memory of Joyce Butters. (Saturday 9-10am, please join us for a special remembrance for Joyce).
We encourage everyone to purchase and decorate a luminary to honor a survivor or the memory of those who have lost the battle.
The
luminaries line the entire walking path on Friday evening and remain
lit throughout the night. It is truly a spectacular sight. The
luminaries are available for a $10.00 donation with all proceeds going
to the American Cancer Society. They are available at Daphne's.
