A tribute to teachers

THE GOOD TEACHER

Say all that man has ever said about a good teacher, and you won't say half enough. The great teacher gives more than ideas - ideals, more than facts - inspiration, more than cold answers - warm provocations to think, and more than knowledge of the past - a challenge for the future.
She deals with the noblest work of God and man's only real value, which is man himself; for all other values, no matter how great they are, relate to him.
The excellent  teacher makes the ideal teaching situation, no matter how many aids are lacking.

Relay for Life Update

This was our team's best event ever! In spite of hot, humid conditions on Friday and pouring rain on Saturday. "Daphne's Family and Friends" team is bigger and better than ever. The team raffle tickets sold like hot cakes thanks to our generous donors. My daughter-in-law scooped 652 sno-cones on Friday alone! We took second place for our 87 luminaries sold and our fantastic "walking stick."
And best of all, our team raised $14,021.00 - our highest amount yet!

Here are two more examples of how people support our relay team and rally to raise money to fight for the cure:

  RIB COOK-OFF

In August our team sponsored a rib cook-off fund raiser. We had nine "chefs" enter the contest for the title of the best ribs. Our judges had a difficult but pleasurable task of selecting the best ribs. Many people attended and a great time was held by all.

LIGHT HOUSE VILLAGE

Lighthouse Village, an RV resort south of Homer, sponsors a relay event on the Sunday before Labor Day. This year the resort raised a total of $1,394.97!

  Having trouble selling your home?

Let St. Joseph help!!

The custom of burying a St. Joseph statue to sell your home has been around for centuries.

The custom most likely began when European nuns buried medals with a St. Joseph likeness on property they hoped to acquire for convents.

Over time, the medals were replaced with statues and the focus changed from buying to selling.

Custom has it that the statue should be buried upside down in the front yard with the feet pointing to heaven. It may face toward your home - or toward the street if you want your neighbor's home to sell!!

When your house is sold, thank God and St. Joseph for their blessings. Then, retrieve the statue and give St. Joseph a place of honor in your new home.
